Construction Recap: Part 2
Officially Over the Hump
Last week we covered Part 1 of our recap which focused on the big steps of the construction process. Today we’re excited to show you how our bakery is beginning to look like, well, a bakery! As things are starting to take shape, we’re able to get involved to a larger extent which is a lot of work but also very gratifying. Every time we spend a day cleaning up drywall dust we think it will be the last time. It never is. Still, step by step, we’re getting closer to baking bread again, and that makes it all worth it.
This picture is of what I consider to be the “tipping point.” Most of the drywall was hung by this point, and our electrician was finally able to install our ceiling fan. The complicated process of any construction project requires a delicate dance between the contractor, electrician, and plumber. The electrical work needed to be completed up to a certain step before our contractor could hang the drywall. But, the drywall had to be up on the ceiling before the ceiling fan could be installed. Seeing it finally in place felt like such a big moment that signified everything finally coming together.
This is the scaffolding that was needed for the upstairs window installation. In case you were wondering if the snow in every outdoor picture is a coincidence, the answer is no! There really is snow on the ground at all times for six months out of the year here in Vermont. It’s so pretty!
The beautiful wood around our new windows is the wood you saw Mauricio cleaning in our blog post from last week. He did a great job of removing a century worth of dust, and once our contractor trimmed the pieces and set them in place, we could tell that the extra work to preserve this piece of our building’s history was worth it. Our space is a beautiful combination of old and new, just like the bread baking we’ll soon be doing in it.
Now we’re almost ready to begin the process of sorting through all of our stuff! It will be so exciting to finally begin to unpack our boxes and to get our supplies in place. It will also be a reminder of how far we’ve come since we packed everything up in June of 2025. Each box is like a time capsule, and we’re looking forward to reliving the memories and dreaming about our future as we go.
There is still so much to be done, and we’ll share more of our progress soon.
